FOTD -- December 11, 2009 (Rating 5-1/2) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image rates a 5-1/2, with 1/2 of this for the coloring, which after all makes the entire image. The parent fractal is a quadratic Mandelbrot set caught half-way through the process of changing into a quintic Mandelbrot set. A small bud lies on the X-axis at the east end of the main bay, with a tiny valley at the east side of this bud. Today's image lies on the north side of this tiny valley. I named the image "Pentagram Panic". The orientation of the white 'star' at the center is halfway between that of the fabled star of Bethlehem of true believers and the occult pentagram of the minions of the forces of evil. The ambiguity could cause panic in both camps. The calculation time of a mere 38 seconds is incredibly fast for an image that hints at a cosmic struggle between good and evil. But why worry about good and evil, and battles in the sky, when the image is posted for instant viewing on the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> The ample sun here at Fractal Central on Thursday was negated by a biting northwest wind, a temperature of freezing and a few decorative flurries of snow. The fractal cats forsook their sun- shelf early and spent the day by the manmade heat. My day was average. The next FOTD is due in 24 hours. And it probably will be posted then. Until next time, take care, and see you soon.
