My wife got one informing her that our credit card had been charged $284 for downloading child pornography, and they needed our credit card info to reverse the charge. . . .
I received one of these child pornography letters about two weeks ago. I think it was from the same sender. It was immediately apparent that the letter was a scam. How did the sender know it was *my* card that had been charged without already having the number? And why was the letter not addressed to me personally? Also, the letter was in 'html' format, formatted to look like an advertisement. Very unconvincing for such a serious thing, yet these schemes must work or else so many people would not be trying them. BTW, I am thinking of re-posting some old FOTD's from the early days of 5 and 6 years ago to keep the lists active while I am catching up my other work. Does anyone on the list object to seeing some images and discussions that were originally posted in 1997 and 1998? Jim M.
