Please forgive me if any other post about this exists. I used Fractint a lot of time ago with XP. Is it possibile install Fractint in Windows 10? FOTX -- May 26, 2016 (RatingA-8.5,M-7.5 ) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image shows a scene in a parent fractal that on its surface is an everyday quadratic M-set. But this parent is contaminated in its depths by cubic energies. The location is in the northern of the two East Valleys (Elephant Valleys) of the large minibrot on the main spike of the parent M-set, which lies at the depth where the cubic contamination first appears. But even at today's rather deep magnitude the cubic energies have not yet been totally absorbed by the cubic, which is visible in the subtle 3-6-9-27.... rather than the expected 3-9-27.... series of arms surrounding the minibrot. I rated the art aspect at an honorable 8.5, since I'm starting to work off the rust and get back into the well-oiled world of fractals worth being considered art. The math does not do too bad either. The rating of a 7.5 is right up there with the big-time images. The name "Caught in a Fantasy" is simply a statement of fact. After all, what are fractals if they are not manifestations of the things numbers do, just as the real world, whose ultimate reality I now consider questionable, appears to be when we look deeper into the quantum. Actually, the more I delve into QM, the more confused I become. Just this morning I read on the internet that all electrons are exactly the same, so that they basically ARE the same electron, which means that in a sense there is only one electron in the universe, and it is therefore questionable to use the word 'electron' in the plural sense. It might be better to think of an electron as a local manifestation of a universal field. This seemed clear enough until I read on another site that some think there could be changeable values hidden in electron(s), and if this were so, it would make some puzzling quantum facts more sensible. But then I wondered how all electrons can be considered identical if they also may have variable attributes hidden within them. The only thing for sure now is that I am far from grasping quantum theory. Things went fairly smoothly here at Fractal Central today. The weather was partly cloudy with a temperature of 88F 31C and higher but still not oppressive humidity. A few showers threatened in the evening but never materialized. The next FOTX will appear in a day or two or three. Until whenever, take care, and maybe the quantum world is a huge fractal. I use: - Jim's FOTD formula and - Richard's Fractint for Windows beta 5 (now called Iterated Dynamics) and - calculate Jim's FOTD. - then, using Jim's FOTD fomula, I calculate - its "parent" fractal by zooming out from the FOTD, and - I make several zooms into the "parent" showing areas in the "parent" in more detail. - If any of these areas look interesting, I may make a few more images. - Sometimes I "look around" the area where Jim calculated his FOTD and see if I can make an interesting image there. I ususally calculate the images 4 or 5 times (6000 x 4500 pixels) larger than the final size I make for viewing. This large size allows me to anti-alias the images. I use the free image processing program, GIMP, to anti-alias my images. I use the free FTP program, FileZilla, to upload the final (usually 1200 x 900 pixels) versions of the images to a server that I rent space on. FOTX -- May 23, 2016 (Rating A-7,M-6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: For reasons known only to myself, today's image is named "Going to Nowhere". It lies in the parent fractal that results when 3 negative parts of Z^(-1.3) are combined with 1.3 negative parts of Z^(-2.6) and 1/C is added on each iteration. The result of this random operation is a fractal consisting of two Mandeloids connected at the hip with two prominent minibrots not far to the east. Today's scene lies near the western extremity of a strip of chunky chaos lying along the negative X-axis. The art rates a 7, since the image is not really that artistic, probably because I'm still a bit rusty on the coloring. The math rates only a 6. We've seen fractals like this many times before. But this does not make the image worth any less. One thing for sure is that today's image shows this particular scene to the world for the first time in all eternity, at least on this planet. I originally had planned for today a parent fractal between Z^2 and Z^3 without discontinuities, but there turned out to be so many of the darned things that I wanted to be sure I choose one of the best as an example. Today went routinely here at Fractal Central, where the graphic design work might be starting to wind down. This is not such bad news however, for it will give me more time to find fractals and draw imaginary scenes on other planets. I'm looking at my bookshelf and admiring my small collection of fractal literature. I was wondering what other people have on their shelf. Here's part of my list: 1. Fractals, Visualization, and J by Clifford A. Reiter Use the J programming language to learn about fractal geometry and generating graphics. I think the last chapter covers image compression and restoration using fractal math. 2. Chaos and Fractals by Peitgen, Jürgens, and Saupe Big fat book, my bible of fractal lore. I love that each chapter ends with a QBasic program! 3. Genesis Redux by Edward Rietman There is a chapter on L-systems and their implications for artificial life. Great book with code samples in a variety of languages. 4. Differential Equations on Fractals by Robert Strichartz I've only covered chapter 1 and the math gets intense rather quickly. Still not sure what this book is really about. Fractal fans: Paul's demise kind of took the wind out of my fractal sails, and I have been especially down because I was off the list at the time. But now I'm back, maybe with not so many fractals, but with a lot to say. FOTD -- May 22, 1016 (Rating A-7,M-7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image shows a scene in the parent fractal that results when Z^(2) and Z^(-1) are blended. Since there is no such thing as a minibrot of a negative unity order, (it would have negative-two main bays), all minibrots reach a floor at the quadratic level, with one lobe. Today's minibrot did its best to be impressive, but I had to add some Fractint special effects to bring it up to FOTX worthiness. Rendering the image with the inside set to 'bof60' and the outside set to 'fmod' gave it just enough bells and whistles to make it worth being declared FOTX for May 22. The reason for the name "MothEaten Minibrot" will become clear when the three minute parameter file is run in Fractint. The next FOTD, which very possibly might be posted in two days or sooner, will feature a fractal between quadratic and cubic that has no discontinuities and has enough zooms to make the most dedicated fan of zooming leap for joy. It rained almost all day here at Fractal Central today, forcing myself and FL to spend the day indoors with the fractal cats. Until next time, take care, and trying to squeeze the quantum world into the world of classic Newtonian common sense is as futile as trying to squeeze a 4-dimensional hypercube into the 3-dimensional world without distorting it. Yet this is what the different interpretations of QM are apparently trying to do. FOTD -- May 19, 2016 (Rating A-7,M-8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image shows a little of what can be done with minibrots of the seventh order when they are calculated in a new way. The formula will reveal the new way, which I discovered several years ago while making up new random formulas, most of which drew beautiful blank screens. When fractals go above the quintic level, they quickly begin to all look the same, and by the time we reach the tenth order, the difference between orders is hard to notice. But look at what lurks in fractals of the seventh order, (and higher orders as well), when we do something new with them. Not only do we have a near perfect minibrot, but there is a very interesting extended pattern surrounding it, partly derived from the parent quadratic Mandelbrot set. This opens an entire new world of fractal exploration, at least for those who seek minibrots. It is also possible to have fractals of fractional orders without those annoying discontinuities, as well as fractals of negative orders. I have just recently begun exploring this stuff, and I'm sure I'll find more new discoveries, not only with today's formula, but with several new formulas I am working on, but have not yet worked the bugs out of. It's such a pleasant day here at FC that I will skip my regular comments about controversial things and enjoy the final rays of sunshine along with FL and the fractal cats. Today turned out quite pleasant here at Fractal Central, with partly cloudy skies, a temperature of 72F 22C, and sunshine that was brilliant between the clouds. The fractal cats took full advantage of the weather by sleeping through the afternoon, while FL puttered in her garden and I searched the internet for things of interest, which there is no shortage of. The next FOTD will be posted in the not too distant future. Until then, take care, and eventually righteousness will prevail, but how will we recognize it when it does?
