Along with some of my hair, teeth, hearing and sight I have lost
considerable memory. Back in the 90's I played with Fractint without any
problem, but I have not been able to remember "howto" just recently.
Now I'm in business again, and without all the complex "sstools" statements
recommended. This is the whole of my final file:
[fractint]
inside=0
map=maps\default.map
ifsfile=ifs\fractint.ifs
parmfile=pars\fractint.par
lfile=lsystem\fractint.l
formulafile=formulas\fractint.frm
autokeyname=key\auto.key
savename=gif_s
I don't know why this works, but it's something to do with the way I'm
setup in DOSBox. In the config file I set cycles="max", fullscreen="true"
and added:
[autoexec]
mount c c:\fractl\
c:\
fractint.exe
Without this autoexec the mounting commands must be typed in... with poor
results. Fractint goes back into its snit-fit about pctools and, when
allowed to continue, runs at its usual steady rate. Return to the DOSBox
modifications and the program goes back into overdrive, and with no pctools
problem. Something to do with all those "c's" ?
Anyway I'm happy with my Fractint-dedicated DOSBox... don't have to
understand it!
During this investigation I discovered that Microsoft does not support
*.hlp files in WIN 10. Navigation is ponderous, at least in my
installation, and dragging files across the screen tortuous... sometimes
taking 5 or 6 seconds for the mouse pointer to attach to the top of the
file. Maybe it will improve.
