Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's fractal diversion takes us to the Mandeloid fractal that
results when Z^(5) and Z^(3) are combined and (C) is added on
each iteration. This parent fractal, which consists of two
large bays, resembles a peanut balanced on its butt end.
Neither bay appears totally critical, though the northern bay
comes closest. Today's image lies in a blunt arm intruding into
a large bud on the northwest shore line of the northern bay.
The unusual effect was achieved by rendering the scene, which
contains much inside stuff, with the 'inside' set to 'bof61'.
But despite the effort, the result falls short of what I had
hoped for, and earns a rating of a double six.
The name "Close But No Prize" reflects my mild disappointment.
The lengthy calculation time of 7-1/2 minutes does nothing at
all to bring consolation. But relief is still available on the
FOTD web sites.

Today brought much improved weather to Fractal Central. The
partly cloudy skies and temperature of 70F 21C made things feel
perfect for the first day of May. The fractal cats ignored the
intermittent sun and passed the day chasing each other up and
down the hallway. The fractal humans enjoyed the day in a more
human manner.
