The image seems to change between the two formulas as the calculation crosses (approximately) the diagonal lines: y = x and y = -x. FOTD 09-02-14 (Satin Ribbons [A-7,M-6])

FOTD -- February 09, 2014 (Rating A-7,M-6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image lies in the parent fractal that results when 2 negative parts of Z^(-22) are combined with 10 negative parts of Z^(-1.2) and (1/C) is added on each iteration. This parent features an extraordinarily well-formed 'fan' with the blade facing east. Today's image lies near the terminus of the main spike of a rather twisted minibrot at the northern edge of the blade of the 'fan'. The art rates a 7. I put enough effort into the coloring to make the rating an honest one. The math rating of a 6 is appropriate, since the math trick is well over ten years old. The name "Satin Ribbons" is a carry-over from an earlier but now discarded coloring of the same image, though a bit of the satin ribbon effect still remains. The calculation time of 3-3/4 minutes is slow, which could allow impatience and boredom to arise. Luckily, the FOTD web sites can eliminate this danger. HI, ; although there has been no feedback (sofar) on yesterday´s somewhat provocative MOTD here now follows the second part with some zooms. ; Maybe some of you remember an image done with the previous version of mfr (Land of wonders). This is similar but with more details and without some ugly parts.. As I stated before, it´s possible with MFR12 to plan and design an image. ; The zooms all are pretty images with perfect - genuine- symmetry. FOTD 07-02-14 (A Sweet Tooth [A-7,M-6])

FOTD -- Febtuary 07, 2014 (Rating A-7,M-6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image takes us back to the large eastern bud of the parent fractal of yesterday's image. But today we check the easternmost of the two northern valleys leading to the bud. I named the image "A Sweet Tooth" when something about it reminded me of candy. The art rates an 8. I might have done better by trying different outside options, but laziness won the day and I went with the default equal iteration bands, which for some reason are not consecutive in today's image. The calculation time of 6-1/2 minutes is rather slow for a humdrum fractal with no fancy bells and whistles. Checking the web sites can save time, and who knows, there is always the chance that a bell or whistle or two might have been added as a variation. FOTD -- February 06, 2014 (Rating A-7,M-6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: In today's FOTD we take a brief break from the world of HyperMandelbrot stuff and return to the world of double negative images. The parent fractal of today's fractal combines Z^(-5.5) with 3 parts of Z^(-1.5). This parent is little more than a near shapeless jumble of large bays oriented east-west and surrounded by a field of smaller disconnected satellite fractals. Today's scene is located on the shore line of a large bud on the eastern edge of the easternmost large bay. The name "The Minor Enigma" has little to do with the image. In fact, it has little to do with anything, since it came to mind at lunch time, while I was watching the 'news'. The art aspect rates a 7, and even this might be a bit too liberal. The math could be rated no higher than a 6, since the math trick is over 10 years old. It's a different story with the calculation time however. The one minute it takes to finish the calculation on a SOTA machine can hardly be surpassed other than by checking one of the web sites. But then they claim that our conscious selves are by-products of our brains, and this is where I get confused. It appears to me that the biologists are claiming that our brains are creating the by-products that know they have brains creating by-products. This is circular reasoning if I ever heard it.
