FOTD -- January 02, 2014 (Rating A-7,M-5)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's scene lies in the fractal solar-system that results when
the formula Z^(2.5)+C is iterated 18 levels up the hyperladder
with no function applied to the calculation. I call this parent
fractal a solar-system because it consists of a scattering of
minor fractals surrounding a large central fractal. Today's
scene is located deep in a valley in a large minor fractal just
southeast of the main fractal.
The name "The Midnight Blues" does not refer to a state of
depression. It is the first thing that popped into my mind when
I emptied it of all other thought, which some say is my usual
mental state.
The art rating of 7 indicates that I see some worth in the
image. The math rating of a 5 shows that the math trick has
produced many fractals in the past, some of which are notably
better than today's.
The calculation time of 5-3/4 minutes might be slow enough to
give boredom and the resulting blues a chance to arise. Here is
where the web sites can be a real 'upper'.
Beat the blues by checking the finished image at:

The day began cloudy here at Fractal Central. Snow began at
1pm, with up to 8 inches expected by midnight. The temperature
reached a high of 30F -1C at noon, but fell steadily through the
afternoon to a forecast low tonight of 0F -18C. The fractal
cats, who prefer snug warm comfort, watched the flakes for a few
minutes before snuggling up in their warm blankets. The humans
also enjoy comfort, but they know that the world is fickle and
often unfair, and personal desires are not always fulfilled on
request.
The wishes for more fractals will be granted however. In fact,
the next one will be posted in about 24 hours at this same spot.
Until then, take care, and God is sometimes fickle in fulfilling
worthy requests, but the FOTD has fulfilled the desire for free
fractals for almost 17 years. (Does this make me more generous
than God, or merely a hypocritical boaster who will some day
face the divine wrath?)

FOTD -- January 01, 2014 (Rating A-7,M-4)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's image is named "Simplest Things". The name came about
when I saw a teen-aged boy texting a message to his friend, who
lives only one block away. It took almost 15 minutes to
complete the communication. I wondered why the boy didn't take
a minute to walk one block, meet his friend and give him the
message in person.
Sometimes the simplest things can be the most enjoyable. And
fractals don't come much simpler than the Julia set of Seahorse
Valley of the (-Z)^(-2.5)+C Mandeloid.
The formula that produced the image, the JuliaMiN, is an ancient
one by FOTD standards, and there are more complex formulas that
could do the same thing plus far more, but the old formula still
produces some interesting scenes, such as the one in today's
image.
The exponent of (-Z) in today's Julia set is actually 2.5,
though the set in the image resembles a straight cubic fractal
more than a fractional one.
After much pondering I rated the artistic aspect of the image at
a 7. But the math interest is so outdated that I could rate it
no higher than a near-failing 4.
The calculation time of 2-1/2 minutes will be no problem for the
true fractal fans who do their own calculation. The others may
find happiness by checking the web sites.
To start the new year on happy street, check the finished image

The first day of the new year brought lots of clouds to Fractal
Central and a temperature that hung around freezing. The
fractal cats had too much fun playing with each other to worry
themselves with the weather. The humans, who are almost as
fractal as the cats, had a slow day, which is the way we like it.
The next FOTD image will be posted most likely on the second day
of this year. Until that moment of glory arrives, take care,
and what absolutely necessary technological wonders will break
upon the scene this year? The Shadow knows, but where is he now
that we need him to tell us?

HI,
this is the last message from me
for this year and for some time
next year, as I´m going for a trip
into the sun.
;
As Hal did not post the promised
analysis I have to do without, the
latest edition of MFR12 is in the link.
There are 4 images all very special:
;
13657-5 consists of 2 images one on
top of the other, but NOT an overlay.
;
13657-8 is another zoom into the same
image that also uses the advanced
coloring methods of the new plugin.
;
56814-4 is a zoom into "The shrine",
an older image but with compressed colors
;
80084-1 uses the warp effect on magnet
and manowar as inside 2 and 3. This
effect can produce completely new
structures of a huge variety. If you
look at the elements of that image
you´ll see that there is no analogy
only some resemblance, not two elements
are exactly the same. Also the structure
cannot be exactly identified, it is
similar to a spiral but is none.
Additionally the coloring is unique.
;
Like always the images are original
Fractint and can be copied directly.
Multifractal_12 is different plugin
and does NOT replace Multifractal_10.
Due to the stripping of unneeded digits
after the dot many images (not all)
generate differently, but other
advantages make up for that.
Also the Lake-Effect is not available
anymore.
