Fractal Music Project

HI, : after a long time of silence I´m back again with a new project. After my Multifractal Project which has remained unique as it still is the only software creating fractals using up to five formulas simultaneously here is my Fractal Music project, possibly the only one which deserves that name, there are some details they have in common: : It uses a single algorithm to automatically create music of theoretically indefinite size which never repeats itself. The rhythm is my own definition of an endless shifting rhythm originally inspired by Steve Reich ("Drumming") and Terry Riley ("In C") and on their side by African native music for instance by the pygmies. : The melodies- of course being the other half of the structure "shifting melodies" - are created using pixels of a Bitmap (BMP) fractal, which is scanned using the dots and lines of a freely designed IFS fractal. : The basic software - in and out and conversion of a pixel into musical parameters of a single note - originates in the nineties, author David Strohbeen and is not available anymore. : In addition to the image the music is influenced to a high degree by the IFS fractal used, a pyramid for instance creates a harder rhythmic structure, a spiral a softer melodic structure. Listening closely and relaxed you may well find that the general atmosphere of the music is that of the originating fractal. : I converted Jim´s "End of the World" image, FOTD Aug27, loved it at first glance. Thanks for that, Jim. Including links of the WAV files - mp3 is not satisfactory - and the original MID files. Be careful when using Midi: The sound depends on the fonts used and therefore maybe disapointing.The soundfont used is WeedsGM3, google for it. Use only a player that does not change the parameters. FOTD -- October 31, 2013 (Rating A-7,M-5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The iterated expression in today's image combines 1.3 parts of Z^2 with 0.65 part of Z^4. This unlikely combination creates a parent fractal shaped somewhat like a boomerang, with the slightly separated arms pointing to the northeast and southeast. Today's scene lies in a valley inside the large bud on the southeast shore line of the northeast arm of the parent fractal. The name "Running Ragged" describes the overall effect of the image, with its excessive detail and super-abundance of spiral arms, not to mention the moth-eaten appearance of the minibrot at the center. The art rating of a 7 is held down by the excessive detail, which muddies the overall appearance. The math rating of a 5 indicates average math interest. Today's formula has been my workhorse for 15 years, and the critical fractals it produces, while beyond numbering, are quite familiar. OK, I admit it! The calculation time of 8-1/2 minutes is slow. But the web sites are there to handle situations just like this. FOTD -- October 30, 2013 (Rating A-7,M-5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image lies in the parent fractal that results when 2 parts of Z^2 are combined with Z^3. This parent is a Mandeloid rotated 180 degrees, consisting of three large bays and a main bud. Today's scene lies on the east side of the southern branch of the valley separating the second and third buds. I named the image "Dreamtime", and why not? If physical existence is the definition of reality, then fractals are every bit as real or unreal as dreams. The unusual terraced effect was achieved by rendering the image with the inside set to 'fmod' and the outside set to 'tdis'. The art rating of a 7 indicates that the effect was achieved by a kind of program trickery. The math rating of a very average 5 indicates that nothing new lies in the math aspect of the image. The most annoying aspect is the slow calculation time of 13 minutes. But here again, the FOTD web sites can relieve the boredom. Mandelmania 2-2

Hi, if you look at the new images in the Mandelmania folder you will detect immediately that something is entirely different. The reason is as follows: When I was trying to "fill" the inside one and three mandels with additional fractals I saw only a brownish colour with some shadows. In order to have a usable image I had to compress the colours of these parts of the image so finally only something like 8bit colours remained. The multifractal "formula" offers this possibility for all channels outside/main/inside 1-3 separately, but never used so far as the problem didn?t occur You can observe the result: A completely new kind of fractal image using several colour maps simultaneously. If they mix a phantastic impression is the result. Again any feedback is welcome as Im not quite sure if this actually has not been done before. Question: What happens if I save these colours as a map: Are the separate compression factors saved?? Take a look again: Have you ever seen a mandelbrot which is shaped like a flying bird - or a kite, maybe-? Also the surroundings support the impression of flying over an ocean. Albrecht, I enjoyed your collection of images named Mandelmania that used your mfr_10.frm formula a lot. You said: > One image is something extra special - check it out. I think you may be referring to the one image with a different color map: 20202-8C.GIF It's a very subtle map and I like its brass, blued steel, and dirty chrome color tones a lot. As an experiment I put the two different colorings of the same fractal: 20202-7.GIF and 20202-8C.GIF into two adjacent tabs of my browser, and rapidly switched between viewing each image of the pair. Interestingly, certain areas of each fractal are brought out more clearly in one of the fractals than the other, which became much more apparent when I "blinked" between viewing each of the two images. I just discovered that: 22222-12.GIF and 22222-13.GIF are the same image with *very* different color maps! FOTD -- October 29, 2013 (Rating A-8,M-5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image lies in East Valley of the minibrot in yesterday's image, though at a far deeper level. The magnitude is over 10^34, at a depth where all Mandelbrot minibrots start to look the same, with an endless series of concentric circular rings surrounding them. This sameness seems to spoil many fractals when certain parameters, such as the magnitude, the value of the exponent of Z or the number of different exponents, are taken to the extreme. Today's image, because of its sixteen prominent elements that add variety to the circles, partly escapes this curse of sameness. The rating of a 6 was bestowed because of my coloring, which is basically the same palette that was used in yesterday's image, but with the logmap turned off. The bad news is that the image requires arbitrary precision math, which at this depth slows things to a crawl. The web sites can get the crawling calculation back on its feet however.
