It was the 1st thing I noticed; You also get this with some of my other viddies that have prolonged rotation sequences, like "cyclone" and "waltz of the pixels", to name just 2. Previous compression codecs made a difference; for some people a 30 vs 26 MEG file can make the download decision for them. This was a new codec, with the most recent MS Media Encoder; yes it appears very efficient. And some security suites block multimedia files (they can contane malware, and often do). But there is always an exception for ZIP since it's so common. The MAP: yes it's cool; I may use it in future work. Unfortunately, most of the colors didn't come out in the animation, except near the very center with the pakman image. ""Pakman Fractal Authorship"" No, it wasn't clear who to credit from the initial post, I just figured it wasn't a Muth thing. So I left it open on my web site. (I can always edit it later). ""Are the sequences of Fractint keystrokes I include in some of my posts ever of any use to anyone?"" I'm not sure what you are talking about. Anyone who has been using fractint for a while knows the keys? .

FOTD 28-02-10 (A Wrecked Tangle [?])

FOTD -- February 28, 2010 (Rating ?) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: As expected, (or feared), we did go on an antiquing expedition on Saturday. The reward was a new rug for the hallway and a fresh supply of murder-mystery novels for FL. Luckily, we returned in time for me to create a FOTD. Too bad it's a near- repeat. Yesterday's image showed the Oblate aspect of the strange rectangle. Today's image, which uses the same color palette, rotates the view 90 degrees to show the Rectangular aspect (imag(C),imag(Z), of the rectangle. Viewed from this direction, the rectangle itself appears pretty much the same, while the pattern around it has shifted from origin symmetry to Y-axis symmetry, (The frame is rotated 90 degrees). Actually, the symmetry is illusory. A close examina- tion will reveal small differences between the upper and lower halves of the image. I named the image "A Wrecked Tangle", which is a play on the word 'rectangle'. I gave the image a rating of a question mark -- the reason -- how many times must we be treated to the same rectangle? The calculation time is under 3 minutes, a time that will not place an undue burden on the aspiring fractalist. About 2 inches, 5cm, of additional snow fell overnight Friday here at Fractal central. Saturday was cloudy and blustery, with a temperature of 39F +4C and occasional showers of snow. The fractal cats cared more about keeping close to the heat than the outside conditions. Despite the antiquing expedition, my day was good enough. . That thing looks freaky! Like an evil doorway to the Nth dimension. What lies beyond ...? Dare you pass thru ... Loox like something in an old sci-fi "B" movie I remember - a time portal. People went in but couldn't get back out. Can't remember the name of it ... Do these rectangles only occur with Z^2.003 ?? .

FOTD 26-02-10 (The Sixteenth Inning [6])

FOTD -- February 26, 2010 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: I see signs of fractal discontent brewing on the list. To set things straight, I saw no undue criticism in Paul's note, nor did I imply any criticism in my reply. If my writing sometimes gets a bit sharp, it is usually due to irritating events here at FC or to world events in general (politics). I am sure the same is true for Paul. Today's image is a harmless thing -- a scene in the parent fractal that comes into existence when equal parts of Z^3 and Z^5 are combined and straight C is added. This parent fractal consists of two large but rather squashed bays sitting one on top of the other. Today's scene is located in an arm inside a non-critical appearing bud on the western shore line of the northern bay. A good part of the image consists of 'inside' stuff made visible by the 'bof61' inside fill. The name "The Sixteenth Inning" is one of the least relevant of all time. The rating of a 6 is all I consider the image to be worth. The calculation time of just under 7 minutes is a ittle too much for an image that rates a six. The easiest way to see the image however is to traipse out to the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> and view the finished product there. Light snow fell all day Thursday here at Fractal Central, but with the temperature just above freezing it melted as fast as it fell. The fractal cats paid more attention to the heat than the outside weather. The forecast is for a foot (30cm) or more of snow by this time tomorrow, but in my opinion, this is greatly exaggerated. The next FOTD is due in 24 hours. With any luck, it will be posted on time. Until then, take care, but do what you will. FOTD 27-02-10 (Same Old Rectangle [?])

FOTD -- February 27, 2010 (Rating ?) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is a different view of the same rectangle that exists in the Julia set of the point -1.7435 on the negative X-axis of the Z^(2.003)+C Mandeloid. The difference is that instead of viewing it in the Julia orientation, we see it today in the Oblate orientation, which is defined by the imag(C) and real(Z) axes of the Julibrot. Viewed in this new orientation, the pincushion distortion of the pure Julia rectangle has vanished, leaving a nearly perfect, though slightly more eccentric rectangle. The pattern around the rectangle has also changed. It now is symmetrical with respect to the origin. The name "Same Old Rectangle" is self-explanatory. The question mark for a rating means that I am posting the image with no rating. The calculation time of just under 3 minutes may be bypassed by viewing the finished image on the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> Light snow fell all night Thursday and all day Friday here at Fractal Central. At post time, 10:30pm Friday, it was still snowing lightly, but only 2 inches or 5cm of fresh snow had piled up. Animation of the recently described "pakman" fractal is posted I dunno, can't tell if it's comin' or goin' ! loox weird like you zooming in and out at the same time might leave you cross-eyed when it ends http://www.fractal-animation.net/vid/tempest.zip 20 MEG for 67 seconds you only see the pakman briefly at the exact center of the viddie, and it was made by varying the y-value inversion parameter from -1.296 -> -1.496 in steps 0.0001 enjoy .
