FOTD -- February 08, 2007 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's un-named and un-rated image lies in the fractal that comes into being when 0.5 parts of Z^3 are combined with 5 parts of Z and C is then added. This parent fractal is a variety of Mandelbrot set rotated 90 degrees so than its normally west side is facing south. A series of dots and dashes appears along the Y-axis, extending north from East Valley of the M-set. Today's image lies in one of these dots. I put almost no effort into the image, a lack which does show. The only special effect came about when I rendered the image with the outside set to 'tdis' rather than the usual 'iter'. This does add a bit of life to the scene, but not enough to earn it a title. Perhaps the best feature of today's FOTD is its very short calcu- lation time of 1-1/3 minutes. We had a 2-inch, 5cm snowfall Tuesday night here at Fractal Central, but the snow was so fluffy that by the time the sun went down Wednesday, the snow had almost totally vanished. The high temperature of 23F -5C on Wednesday was far too cold for any self-respecting cat, much less for the fractal cats who have no self-respect. My day was busy, but at the same time it was as close to an average day as we have seen in several weeks. The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours or so. FOTD -- February 07, 2007 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image shows a midget hiding in the parent fractal that results when the formula Z^(1.55)+C is iterated 55 levels up the logarithmic ladder. Like almost all the midgets in this exponent range, the one in today's image resembles a starburst. With little time to devote to fractaling, I put too little effort into today's image to give it a name or rating. My own opinion is that the colors are a bit weak, but the ladies seem to like pastel shades, so I declined to increase the contrast. The render time of 4-1/2 minutes should offend the patience of only the busiest fractalists. And these hurried ones can still see the image by going to the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> and viewing it there. Lots of sun, less wind, and a temperature of 21F -6C made things a bit less uncomfortable here at Fractal Central on Tuesday. But for some reason the fractal cats were uneasy, and spent much of their day wandering about the house calling out for something only they knew about. My day was very busy, as tomorrow will be also. But those FOTD images just keep coming. The next one is due in 24 hours. If all goes well, it might actually appear. FOTD -- February 06, 2007 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: In the FOTD discussions, I keep talking about a mysterious 'parent fractal'. The parent is really not so mysterious however. It is simply the entire fractal created by the generating formula. Today's image is such a parent fractal. It resulted when I combined 0.65 part of Z^(-1.4142) with 0.65 part of Z^(1.4142) and added straight C. Like so many fractals created by the M-Mix4 formula, it appears to be two fractals in one. The main Mandeloid in the image is immediately obvious, but in the background lies part of a larger and unseen fractal. This unseen fractal appears as the bright stuff in the parent fractal. Its buds are apparent, but it is obviously a 'ghost' fractal. I suspect that the generating formula has more than one critical point, and this unseen fractal is what would appear if Z were initialized to another critical point. As it is, the image, with its deep blues and purples, is a rather somber one. Since I didn't even try to explore deeper into the fractal, I could hardly give it a name or rating, but it's still a pleasant thing to see, and with a calculation time of under 3 minutes, little time will have been wasted if the result is disappointing. Enough sun broke through the clouds to make the day bright, but the brisk wind and temperature around 12F -11C made it risky to stay ex- posed for too long. The fractal cats never expose themselves to the weather however. They were quite satisfied to lie near the large radiator in the hallway, which was going full blast. As today's super-quick fractal shows, my day was very busy. And to make things worse, the heavy work will likely continue for another week at least. So far I have been able to keep the FOTD going. Hopefully, I'll be able to keep it going during the coming week. The next in the long series of never-before-seen fractals will almost certainly appear on schedule in 24 hours. Of course, 'almost' is no 100-percent guarantee, so check back tomorrow at this same time. Until then, take care, and if time, like space, is quantized, how long is the present moment? . do this: hit "B" key and save your fractal information to a PAR; you are given the option to name it when you do this. It is an ascii text file - it will open in notepad. Open it in notepad, hit Ctrl-A then Ctrl-C to copy the whole thing. Then paste that into your reply to the fractint email list. This way it is only text-ascii and shouldnt be "scrubbed" any more than normal commentary. .

FOTD -- February 05, 2007 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image has evaporated. No, it has not turned to vapor, it has turned to total 'outside' fractal stuff. All its points became trapped when I raised the bailout radius to one googol. But such trapped points do not simply idly lie there doing nothing. They are quite busy in their invisible world, and need only an active inside fill such as the 'bof61' of today's image to reveal their activity. The un-evaporated parent fractal was created by combining Z^(-0.9) with 0.1 part of Z^(-9.9) before adding (1/C). This parent resembles an oversized string of diamond-shaped bays. Today's scene is located near the point where several bays come together. In my impatience to get to the TV, I did not bother to give the image a name or rating, but it is not a bad fractal, well worth the 7 minutes required to calculate it. An even easier way to see the image is to visit the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> where it will soon be posted for viewing. Sunday was downright cold here at Fractal Central, and Monday is due to be even colder. Luckily the fractal cats do not worry about outside weather. Well, maybe before I acquire a coffin, I'll get his stuff straight!. Have no idea where the .frm for sf7f0017 came from.(?) Anyway, it has the proper name. Attached is the correct .frm for sf70017.par. Discard the one file with the "bogus.frm" in it. The rest all appear to be correct. Sorry "bout that!! sunfish

Pars and Formulas

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, and if so please point me in the right path. When I am preparing to do a list post I select the fractal that I want to post, do a <b> for the .par write to file, and then <t> to bring up the formula for the individual fractal. Does this work all the time? Is this the way to do it? Or should I <z> the screen and write the information down that is shown? Is there another way to do this? I am asking because I do not want to post wrong information (as I just did today) when I am posting to the list. There are enough hassles without me posting garbage. And, just curious, why did I get the "bogus.frm" with the <t> entry on the fractal with full screen display? Shouldn't it have gone to the correct formula? sunfish
