Tim, This is on the Fractint bug list, but I can't see a problem. Is the XP machine readily available for trying this?
OS: Windows XP Home Edition (SP1) CPU: Pentium 4 (2.53 GHz) (in pre-configured Toshiba Satellite notebook) Video card: NVidia GeForce4 440 Go Occurs: When it's on guessing with X-axis symmetry, the zoom includes the X-axis and the center is below the X-axis, may have to have arbitrary precision on, don't know. Description: Where the mirrored symmetry meets tacked-on, non-mirrored part at the bottom, Fractint leaves some of its guessing dots in the final image. If you use the included PAR entry in video mode F3, the errors are in the 10th row from the bottom of the image. (In this example, in F3 video mode, it only shows up on the last pass. In the original 1280x1024 image, it showed up earlier.) (no sstools.ini present) Par entry:
Lookit! A bug! { ; Version 2002 Patchlevel 5 ; Sorry about the deepish zoom reset=2002 type=mandel center-mag=-1.99999998621232161343722080872877200416/-3.3706363e-36/1.44\ 5961e+034 params=0/0 float=y maxiter=1000 } Other types: So far, only observed in Mandel, but I would THINK it would happen in any other X-symmetrical type under the conditions. It might have to be in arbitrary mode to happen, not sure. (Can't boot to DOS in XP... Darn...) <<< Jonathan

I now have an XP machine with an Athlon. (I can run Fractint only in the F3 mode. In SVGA modes the fractal generates and then hangs the computer.)
If you use the included PAR entry in video mode F3, the errors are in the 10th row from the bottom of the image.
I can't see this, I guess, though when I compared passes=g and passes=1 with debug=50 I did see a line of differences near the bottom. Tim

Yes, when comparing the two images with debug=50, there are differences at the bottom where the boundary is between the symmetrical part and the rest. I used 1024x768. These are fairly subtle differences. Maybe Joe is seeing something different. Jonathan
