Hello Jonathan, I regret that Fractint is not compatible with the command box in Windows XP. Is the developing team working on this or is it possible to rewrite Fractint totally for Windows XP? Yours sincerely, R.G.A, Mesander, The Netherlands mesander@wxs.nl

Since it seems to be due to the video drivers, you might try a different card and/or drivers. I have heard of others that got FractInt to run on Windows NT, 2000 and XP in various ways (though some have limited video modes available in FractInt). One individual formatted a FAT-16 partition on their XP system and used that to run from. On the only machine I've tried it on, it worked fine. I started by making a shortcut to the Fractint executable, then modified the properties to match those used for other Windows versions. There is an option on one of the shortcut property tabs to emulate older/other versions of Windows. I tried setting it to Win98, but it was never set when I came back to it. So, I would guess that it wasn't doing anything. I also put in specific numbers for the amount of extended and expanded memory instead of leaving the settings as auto. The machine is an HP laptop with an S3 video chip. Don't know any more than that since it isn't mine and I'm a large number of miles away from it at this point. I tried 1024x768 in both 256 colors and truecolors with no problems. I also always run Fractint full screen. It probably makes a difference. There are two settings for this in the shortcut properties, set them both. Jonathan
