I may have missed something, but just in case not... Could someone explain why the download of the "fradev20.2.04.zip" contains a different executable than the "fradev20.2.03.zip", but both show 20.2.03 in the online Help?? There are (at least) two places to look. The screens report a version, and the help "What's new" reports a version. I just checked out fradev20.2.04.zip (I didn't download a fresh one) and I found version 20.2.04 everywhere AI looked. Are you sure you are running the executable you think you are? Tim

To double check, I DID download the "fradev20.2.04.zip" file yesterday from this directory: http://www.fractint.org/ftp/current/dos/ The Zip file contained a "FRACTINT.EXE" file dated 04/10/2002 at 18:29:16. After extracting it and double-clicking that particular file, I get the default Mandelbrot image. Then I hit the <ESC> key which shows version 20.2.03 at the top of the Main Menu. BTW, did you want all of those grammar and spelling errors repaired in the Document?? Again I offer my assistance in this area. You are right, something got messed up. We'll straighten it out. I have a mirror of the web site on my Windows machine and that file was OK. Jonathan may have a guess what happened, but I can probably fix it.

Of course. If you offered before and we didn't say yes we're nuts :-) The best way to do this is to directly edit the help*.src files. To compile the *.src files in with fractint, you only need the help compiler hc.exe, as long as you don't change any hotlinks. If you need some help to get this organized, let me know. Hmm - I should just put the help compiler somewhere folks can download it. Tim

Has it changed since March 20, 1998?? That is what the last copy is dated, when I got it from you back in October 1998. Sincerely, P.N.L. -------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.fractalus.com/cgi-bin/theway?ring=fractals&id=43&go

I don't think it has. The thing is to get the help*.src files for the latest patch. Easiest way to get that (if I don't upload it especially) is from the latest xfractint source. But I'd be happy to upload a help src files only for each patch. Tim

Already had the latest source data, just wanted to verify the Help Compiler. Thank you for the info, and assumed verification of the actual compiler. ;-} Should have it ready in a fairly short time. Somehow I managed to get the help recompiled, but not the source. As soon as I recompiled realdos.c, the correct version appeared at the top of the screens. And, it is now on the ftp site. It couldn't have been okay on your mirror site, Tim. Unless, you recompiled. The zipped copy on my hard drive was messed up, as was the one in my working directory. Needless to say, that was a really bad week. I'll have to be more careful when I know all the synapsis aren't firing correctly. Jonathan

Right you are. My "good" copy was the float only version, that had the same file name. When you run it, it looks superficially very similar. It wasn't really in the mirror portion of my hard drive. I spoke without having looked closely enough.

Hmmm, somehow I think that is not quite enough badness for a "really bad week". Either that or my standards are way lower than yours :-) Tim

I did have to upload the diff 3 times that week. And, you didn't know about the torn pectoral muscle. Jonathan

A real good guess would be because I screwed it up. 8-) But, not to worry, the only change in the DOS version was in the help files. Or, at least that was where the change was supposed to be. I'll straighten it out in a day or two. Thanks. Jonathan
