Who is working on WinFract?
Jonathan Osuch is the only one consistently working on Fractint (any version) these days, with occasional help from me and occasional help from others who take an interest in some feature or other.
What operating systems does WinFract run under? Win 3.1? Win 9x, ME, NT, 2K, XP?
Winfract is compiled for the original Windows 3.1 environment using the same segmented memory model as DOS. I believe Winfract still runs under all released versions of Windows - not sure about Vista - but only because DOS is to some degree supported by versions of Vistas.
What is its current status and what are its needs?
Winfract was originally developed by Bert Tyler based on a much older than current version of Fractint. Jonathan has merged Winfract with the latest DOS developer version, but not everything works. To help with Winfract development you need Microsoft C version 7, or maybe Borland C. Obviously Fractint/Winfract would benefit by being ported to a more modern environment, but this is an abstract discussion unless one has both lots of skill and lots of time not to mention lots of commitment. Worthy starts have been made over the years by a number of people, some of whom frequent this forum. All of them give up some fraction of Fractint's features in order to move to the new environment.
