Trying to do regression testing of every option on your own is a daunting task. I am still looking at what has been achieved so far and have a way to go before I consider what is yet to be fixed. Thanks, Tim, I haven't been keeping any of the temp stuff on line because I only have a limited amount of web space which I use for my commercial product. But I can use it for small files like this. What is the maximum message size you allow on the fractdev message? Please advise. Hi Team, I just thought I had better give you a progress report. GIF file open and save: Only reads 256 colour files at this stage Colours: 256 colour 8 bit true colour only - palette files OK Colour Cycling: Swap lots of memory - not palette driven Passes: All work up to v20.2, Hor and vert blinds added Basic Options: OK up to v20.2 Extended options: Coded up to v20.2 but not fully tested Formula Parameters: OK up to v20.2 Printing: OK 3D: Works sort of. Needs a lot of work Batch file: OK as long as there is no Arb precision or skew zooming Arbitrary Precision: Coded but not working Copy to ClipBoard: Not quite yet Fractal Formula: OK up to v20.2 3D Params: OK Starfield: OK Random Dot Stereo: Works but problem with user interface Zooming: Very basic - no skew or rotation Status and Coord box: OK Fractint Style Dialog boxes: Inhibited (Why use it if we have win GUI?) Load and save colour map: OK Help: Not yet. Interface OK but help file not built. Video modes: (Windows driven) 256 colour only 640 * 480, 800 * 500, 1024 * 768. Parser: Not yet. Memory model: Upgraded to 32 bit Windows. All original non-windows sources should compile as before as changes wrapped in #ifdef WIN32, #endif. I remember someone saying that they have help source files in RTF format for Fractint Help. Can anyone help, please? Any comments greatly appreciated. Xfractint color cycling

Tim, Did you know that it is possible to make Xfractint color cycle? Well, with some code changes. I'll add it to my list. I've once again been reminded why I don't like upgrading operating systems. I purchased the Mandrake 8.2 Powerpack Edition. It won't install on my desktop machine. Tried to reinstall 8.0, which also failed. There are no obvious error messages that mean anything to me. A file can't be found and icons don't show up on the screen. Seems like there isn't enough RAM. 96 MB doesn't quite measure up (8.2 recommends 128 MB). I'll try using the text mode install next. Luckily, the desktop machine isn't being used for anything. But, it doesn't give me a warm fuzzy about upgrading the laptop. BTW, I usually do an install instead of an upgrade because the system tends to be less flakey. Also, the file system can be changed to Ext3FS with 8.2. Jonathan

Jonathan; Brilliant. Keyboard input fixed. Now if I can just get it to *draw* something. I think I broke the math, somewhere. Anyone have any hints about sqrtl(), sinl(), et al? I came across his attempted post when deleting all the szpam from non members, saw that it was on topic, and let the message be posted. XFractint and Cygwin/ XFree86 Date: Fri, 3 May 2002 18:09:41 -0400 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Howdy; I've been playing around with trying to compile XFractint on Cygwin/ XFree86 (the latest of everything) and I was wondering if anyone had had any luck? My c/c++ skills are non-existent, but it seems clear that this thing should work if someone "in the know" were to sort out the #include and #define issues. The only horrible show-stopper I've found (I think, anyway) is use of FIONREAD for keyboard handling. It *is* defined under Cygwin (in asm/socket.h), but I don't think it works quite right (translation: when I run the resulting executable, it ignores the keyboard completely. The other issue that seems somewhat serious involves all the "big math" functions ('frexpl', et al). I kludged around enough to get a compile to finish, but the result doesn't actually plot anything on screen (hey, I'm happy it doesn't lock up the machine!). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
