BYU will scrimmage in the stadium today, Saturday. It should tell us a lot about just how improved BYU will be this season, if at all. The scrimmage will be closed except for family members, BYU football staff and big donors who want to see firsthand their ROI (rate of return) on their investment, but no sniveling *sycophants will be allowed. With my generous prediction, I am sure that some will give me the SS label. * syc.o.phant Noun a person who acts *obsequiously toward someone important in order to gain advantage. yes-man, bootlicker, brown-noser, toady, lickspittle, flatterer, flunky, lackey, spaniel, doormat, stooge, cringer, suck, suck-up "I thought you wanted a competent assistant, not a nodding sycophant" Instead I base my Pollyanna prediction on the following, which I published a week or so ago. It was an anonymous evaluation of Kalani Sitake from a fellow coach. What I found interesting was the following: "I really believe this season will revolve around the offensive line. Those guys couldn't get a consistent push last year, and there was too much uncertainty in the run game because of it. Not to mention the lack of consistent pass protection." "Depth has been a real problem there and has prevented them from having valuable competition. If you don't have guys pushing starters, things get stale when those starters know their jobs aren't on the line every snap." "Want to know why QB Tanner Mangum hasn't played as well as he did in his first season? Not too hard to connect the dots. When you can't protect, your QB gets hit and starts to make quick decisions - and more damaging, he starts to make bad decisions." It is all about the line of scrimmage. I watched this clip this morning and upped my ante and win total to 8. Hopefully tomorrow's scrimmage will back up the bravado.
