HB Arnett's "Lite" <mailto:hbarnett@fiber.net> hbarnett@fiber.net 801 372 0819 Vol. 38, Issue 3, August 20, 2018 Follow the Money There was plenty of speculation in the investigation of the Watergate break in a few decades ago that "Follow the Money" was said by "Deep Throat". Jack Ryan, the fictional spy/CIA analyst/tough guy character who will be seen later this month in a new series on Amazon Prime, also is quoted in the promo trailers that he "just follows the money". Thanks to some very good work by Mitch Harper, we too can follow the BYU football scholarship money. It's an interesting read and well done by Harper. <https://247sports.com/college/byu/ContentGallery/Every-Scholarship-Player-o n-the-2018-BYU-Football-Roster-120811587/#120811587_1> Follow the BYU Football Money Wouldn't we love to know what coaches say privately about the coaching peers? I would. That's why I suggest you <https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/candid-coaches-who-are-the- most-overrated-and-underrated-college-football-coaches/> Click here. Could Nick Saban Win at BYU? Which Came First? The Chicken or the Egg? Is it players or coaches that win football games? If you read the CBS article above about coaches rating other coaches anonymously, you saw this said about Nick Saban, the former coach at Michigan State, LSU and now Alabama. "If you had the No. 1 recruiting class in the country every year [you'd win like Nick Saban]. He shows up at every single game with a better roster than the teams he 's playing. . If you count cheating and getting the best players in the country as part of running a program, he's the best in the country. It's like saying an <https://www.cbssports.com/nfl> NFL coach is the best coach in the league if he gets 25 first-round picks every year." If you have read my letter for a few years, you know that I personally think having good players is better than having good coaches. I may be wrong. This BYU season will let me know if I am right or wrong when it comes to coaching vs players. I don't see any major improvement in the talent level at BYU with a few exceptions. The biggest exception may be Zach Wilson at quarterback, if he can play like he is being touted. I'm extremely interested in the comparison of offensive staff resumes between last year and this season. I'll be interested to see if it makes a difference. Here we go.
