Writers Brenda Miller and Teresa Jordan will read from their works for the City Art Reading Series on April 13th at 7:00 P.M. at the Salt Lake City Library’s Main Branch. . Brenda Miller is the author of Season of the Body (Sarabande Books, 2002) and co-author of Tell it Slant: Writing and Shaping Creative Nonfiction (McGraw-Hill, 2003). Her newest collection of essays, Blessing of the Animals, was released by Eastern Washington University Press on February 1, 2009. Her work has received five Pushcart Prizes and has been published in many journals, including Fourth Genre, Creative Nonfiction, The Sun, Utne Reader, The Georgia Review, and The Missouri Review. Miller’s last collection includes two Pushcart Prize winning essays (“Blessing of the Animals” and “Raging Waters”). "Table of Figures" was named a "Notable Essay" in The Best American Essays, 2009 and selected for inclusion in The Best Creative Nonfiction, Vol. 3, by W.W. Norton. A book of new and selected essays is forthcoming as is a collaborative book on spiritual practices in writing. Miller is a Professor of English at Western Washington University and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Bellingham Review. She lives in Bellingham, WA, with her dog Abbe and her cat Madrona, both of whom are acting as muses for her next book. Teresa Jordan was raised as part of the fourth generation on a ranch in the Iron Mountain country of southeastern Wyoming. An author and visual artist, her books include the ranching memoir, Riding the White Horse Home; the classic study of women who work on the land and in the rodeo, Cowgirls: Women of the American West; and two illustrated journals, Field Notes from the Grand Canyon: Raging River, Quiet Mind, and Field Notes from Yosemite: Apprentice to Place, as well as other books. She lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, with her husband, musician and public radio producer Hal Cannon. The event is free and open to the public. City Art is sponsored by the Utah Arts Council, the Salt Lake City Arts Council, Zoo, Arts, and Parks, X-mission, and audience donations. The featured reading will be followed by an open reading.
