Writer Nicole Walker will read from her workpreceded by a presentation on the ecology and cultural history of the GreatSalt Lake featuring Jaimi Butler andMichael McLane on Wednesday, July 26th at 6:00 p.m. at the WhiteRock Campground on Antelope Island as part of Wild Words: a City Art specialsummer event. This event is free and open to the public though there is anentry fee for the state park. Pleasebring fold out chairs and plenty of beverages and snacks. Following the reading, stick around for thesunset. Note: there is an entrance fee for AntelopeIsland to help support this beautiful, unique state park. Great Salt Lake Talk: Prior to the reading, join us at 5:30PM for a discussion of the ecology of the area as well as the environmental andliterary history of the Great Salt Lake with Jaimi Butler from the Great Salt Lake Institute and Michael McLane from UtahHumanities Council. Butler and McLane have been leading daytrips toAntelope Island over the last year in order to help visitors and residentsbetter understand the complexities of the region and to integrate both scienceand the humanities in an understanding of place. NICOLEWALKER is the author of two forthcoming booksSustainability: A Love Story and Microcosmology. Her previous books includeEgg, Micrograms, Quench Your Thirst with Salt, and This Noisy Egg. She alsoedited Bending Genre with Margot Singer. She’s nonfiction editor at Diagram andAssociate Professor at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona whereit rains like the Pacific Northwest, but only in July.
