Poets NeeliChekovski and Lisa Bickmore will read from their work April 11th at the SaltLake City Public Library at 7:00 P.M. as part of the City Art ReadingSeries. NeeliCherkovski was born in LosAngeles and attended Los Angeles State College (now Cal StateLos Angeles). He is theauthor of many books of poetry, including Animal (1996), LeaningAgainst Time (2005), From the Canyon Outward (2009), and The Crow and I (2015). Heis the coeditor of Anthology of L.A. Poets (with Charles Bukowski) and Cross-Strokes: Poetry betweenLos Angeles and San Francisco (with Bill Mohr). He has also published bilingual editions in Austria, Mexico, andItaly. A facsimile edition of one of his notebooks was published byViviani Edizione in Verona, Italy. Cherkovski also wrote biographiesof Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Charles Bukowski,as well as the critical memoir Whitman’s Wild Children (1988). Hispapers are held at the Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley.Cherkovski received the 2017 Jack Mueller Poetry Prize awarded at the JackMueller Festival in Fruita, Colorado. He has lived in San Francisco since 1974. LisaBickmore is the author of three books of poems as well as video work.Among her honors are the Ballymaloe International Poetry Prize for 2015, andthe 2014 Antivenom Prize for her second book, flicker. Her third book,Ephemerist, is out this year. She is professor of English at Salt LakeCommunity College, where she is also one of the founders of its PublicationCenter.
