City Art is pleased to host Brian Evenson and MollyGaudry on Wednesday, October 9th at 7pm in the 4th floor conferenceroom of the City Library. BRIAN EVENSON is the author of a dozen books offiction, most recently the story collection A Collapse of Horses (Coffee HousePress 2016) and the novella The Warren (Tor.com 2016). He has also recentlypublished Windeye (Coffee House Press 2012) and Immobility (Tor 2012), both ofwhich were finalists for a Shirley Jackson Award. His novel Last Days won theAmerican Library Association's award for Best Horror Novel of 2009. His novelThe Open Curtain (Coffee House Press) was a finalist for an Edgar Award and anInternational Horror Guild Award. Other books include The Wavering Knife (whichwon the IHG Award for best story collection), Dark Property, and Altmann'sTongue. He has translated work by Christian Gailly, Jean Frémon, Claro, JacquesJouet, Eric Chevillard, Antoine Volodine, Manuela Draeger, and David B. He isthe recipient of three O. Henry Prizes as well as an NEA fellowship. His workhas been translated into Czech, French, Italian, Greek, Hungarian, Japanese,Persian, Russia, Spanish, Slovenian, and Turkish. He lives in Los Angeles andteaches in the Critical Studies Program at CalArts. Molly is the founder of Lit Pub and the authorof We Take Me Apart, which was a finalist for the Asian American Literary Awardfor Poetry and shortlisted for the PEN/Osterweil. The verse novel has beentaught at Brown, Wesleyan, Cornell College, Queens College, CUNY, and othercreative writing programs in the US. As of Halloween 2018, its sequel Desire: AHaunting is also available. Molly is a PhD candidate and Steffensen Cannonfellow at the University of Utah. Writers Lance Olsen, Lindsey Drager, and Michael Mejiafrom the fiction faculty of the University ofUtah's Creative Writing program will read from their work on October 2ndat the Salt Lake City Public Library at 7:00 P.M. as part of the City ArtReading Series. LanceOlsen is author of more than 25 books of andabout innovative writing, including, most recently, the novels Dreamlives ofDebris (Dzanc, 2017) and My Red Heaven (Dzanc, forthcoming 2020). His shortstories, essays, and reviews have appeared in hundreds of journals andanthologies, such as Conjunctions, Black Warrior Review, Fiction International,Village Voice, BOMB, McSweeney’s, and Best American Non-Required Reading. AGuggenheim, Berlin Prize, D.A.A.D. Artist-in-Berlin Residency, N.E.A.Fellowship, and Pushcart Prize recipient, as well as a Fulbright Scholar, heteaches experimental narrative theory and practice at the University of Utah. Lindsey Drager is the author of The Sorrow Proper (Dzanc, 2015),winner of the 2016 Binghamton University / John Gardner Fiction Award, and TheLost Daughter Collective (Dzanc, 2017), winner of a 2017 Shirley Jackson Awardand finalist for at Lambda Literary Award, and The Archive of AlternateEndings, which is forthcoming from Dzanc Books. She was an assistant professorat the College of Charleston and recently joined the creative writing facultyat the University of Utah. Michael Mejia is the author of the novels TOKYO and Forgetfulness,and his fiction and nonfiction have appeared in many journals and anthologies.A recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and theLudwig Vogelstein Foundation, he is editor-in-chief of Western HumanitiesReview, co-founding editor of Ninebark Press, and a professor of English at theUniversity of Utah, in Salt Lake City, where he lives with his wife and theirJack Russell Terrier. PoetsMario Chard and Danielle Susi will read from their work on September 25that the Salt Lake City Public Library at 7:00 P.M. as part of the City ArtReading Series. The City Art Reading Series ispleased to host poets Mario Chard and Danielle Susi at the Special Collectionsroom of the Salt Lake City Public Library at 7pm! Mario Chard wasborn in northern Utah. The son of an Argentine immigrant mother and an Americanfather, he was educated at Weber State University (BA) and Purdue University(MFA). From 2011-2013, he was a Wallace Stegner Fellow in Poetry at StanfordUniversity. He is the author of Land of Fire (Tupelo Press, 2018), selected byRobert Pinsky for the 2016 Dorset Prize, named a 2018 Notable Debut by Poets& Writers Magazine, and chosen as the winner of the 2019 Georgia Author ofthe Year Award in Poetry. His poems and essays have appeared in the The New Yorker,Poetry, Boston Review, and elsewhere, and have been honored with variousawards, including the “Discovery” Poetry Prize. He teaches in Atlanta, Georgia,where he lives with his wife and sons. Danielle Susi isthe author of the chapbook The Month in Which We Are Born (dancing girl press,2015). Her writing has appeared in Knee-Jerk Magazine, Hobart, The Rumpus, andelsewhere. Her full-length manuscript A River Always Ends at a Mouth, has beenselected as a semi-finalist for both the Lexi Rudnitsky First Book Prize atPersea Books and the Hudson Prize at Black Lawrence Press. City Art is pleased to welcome Dan O'Brien and Natalie Young in theSpecial Collections room of the City Library September 18th at 7:00. Dan O'Brien is a playwright, poet, andlibrettist. His play, The House in Scarsdale: A Memoir for the Stage, winner ofthe 2018 PEN America Award in Drama, received a critically acclaimed worldpremiere at The Theatre @ Boston Court in Los Angeles, directed by MichaelMichetti, and was nominated for six Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle prizesincluding Best Play. Natalie Young is a founding editor of theaward-winning poetry magazine Sugar House Review. Natalie is left-handed, halfPuerto Rican, and a fan of Dolly Parton and green olives. Recent poetrypublications include Los Angeles Times, Rattle, Tampa Review, South DakotaReview, Green Mountains Review, and others. CITYART presents weekly programs at thewonderful downtown Salt Lake City Library featuring invited readers. Readingsare typically presented on the first three Wednesday evenings of the schoolyear months at 7 p.m. An Open Reading usually follows, at which audiencemembers may briefly read from their own work.
