Hi Everyone--

When considering whether to treat a series statement as 'traced' or 'untraced', our system currently uses 'a' and/or 'b' in the 008 byte 12 (of an LC authority record) as a determining factor.  Our MARS rule is stated this way:

"Traced means any series record with a 645 $a 't' OR a value of 'a' or 'b' in the 008 [12]."

For those who request it, we will narrow this down to be "645 $a 't' AND a value of 'a' etc."

After feedback from several of our clients and careful research and consideration on our part, we have decided to amend this to include 'z'.  The rule will now read:

"Traced means any series record with a 645 $a 't' OR a value of 'a', 'b', or 'z' in the 008 [12]."

Thanks - if you have any specific concerns about this change, please don't hesitate to contact your Backstage Project Manager.
