At Backstage, we are always on the lookout for presentation and other
related opportunities with our clients.
Jeremy Myntti (University of Utah, Marriott Library) and I co-presented
at the Authority Control Interest Group in ALA Annual (Chicago, 2013).
We discussed our work on providing authority control for digital
collections in a non-MARC environment. In addition to the presentation
at ACIG in Chicago 2013, Jeremy & I also participated in an online
webinar hosted by Mountain West Digital Library:
http://mwdl.org/events/authcontrol.php.
Earlier this year, I did a co-presentation with Sarah Beth Weeks from
the Bridge Consortium, regarding our RDA enrichment services. Sarah & I
talked about what transpired with her records from our different
perspectives; Sarah also very nearly lost her voice on the day we
presented but was able to pull it off without a hitch. Archived versions
of our presentation are available to Amigos members here:
http://www.amigos.org/rda_conference. I should note that the picture
they used of me is easily 10 years old! I have much more gray in my hair
now.
As you look at your calendar of potential presentation or webinar
opportunities in the next 6 or so months, please keep us in mind for
anything that might make sense for joining with you. It could be that
participating in a co-presentation at this year's ALA Annual in Las
Vegas is too late, but we welcome other prospects down the road.
Especially as we start enriching more and more of your records with RDA
elements, it may make sense to put together a presentation or webinar
and talk about the effects running that process has had on your staff,
your catalog, and your patrons.
Please feel free to respond either to the list or offline if you would
like to pursue presentations or webinars with us. We also have others on
the team that would love to participate and lend their expertise,
assisting you in whatever way we can.

Currently, we are changing [et al.] (and a very small permutations of
this) to [and others] (BSLW Wiki: link <http://bslw.it/1kq0hWI> ). This
change happens for all languages. So if a record is in English, it is
updated to [and others]; if a record is in German it is updated to [and
others].
We are also working on a report that lets you know when we change [et
al.] to [and others] and the language code (008[35-37]) is not 'eng'
(i.e. English).
But we wanted to check with you all about whether it made sense to
change [et al.] to the foreign-language equivalent of [and others],
based on the 008[35-37] language code.
For example, if 008[35-37] is 'ger' (i.e. German), would you want us to
change [et al.] to [und andere]? Or we should we continue changing it to
[and others]? Please note that this change only happens for clients that
have instructed us to do so via RDA 4.1 (online profile).
Thank you for any thoughts you may have on this question.
