Hi Everyone,
For those of you who may be scheduled for our Notification services in
the next couple of weeks or may be sending new bibliographic records for
our Current Cataloging service, we wanted to remind you that we will be
receiving fewer updated authorities from LC during that time. Many of
you have probably already seen the announcement from Cataloging
Distribution Service News & Announcements, but for your courtesy we
repeat it here.
Thanks!

Library of Congress
News from CDS
LC ILS Upgrade Impact on MDS
The Library of Congress will upgrade its Integrated Library System (ILS)
starting February 14, 2014. The ILS upgrade process is expected to take
approximately one week. During the upgrade process, the creation,
updating and importing of bibliographic and authority cataloging records
into the LC production database will cease. Consequently very few
cataloging records will be available for distribution via the daily and
weekly MARC Distribution Services (MDS) during the upgrade time.
Specific impacts on MDS subscribers include:
* Daily distribution processing for MDS products will end on
Friday, February 14. Normal daily distribution is expected to resume on
Monday, February 24.
* Weekly distribution processing for MDS products (Issue 07) will
take place on Friday, February 14 instead of Tuesday, February 18;
however, this distribution will remain on the server for automated or
manual downloading. The file will contain records created or modified
after the previous distribution on Tuesday, February 11, through the
close of business on Thursday, February 13; therefore this issue will
contain a smaller number of records. The normal weekly distribution
cycle is expected to resume on Tuesday, February 25, again with fewer
records.

upgrade can be directed to:

Greetings Everyone,
Thanks to all who participated in our recent survey on RDA
implementation. Among the results, 58% of respondents showed at least
some interest in an automated enrichment process for RDA. And more than
half of you noted that consistency in your catalog is an important
reason to move forward with this enrichment, when the time is right.
Many of our new customers, processing their authorities with Backstage
for the first time, are choosing to enrich their bibliographic records
with RDA elements as part of that process.
We also appreciate the loyalty and feedback of our existing customers.
RDA enrichment is already available for new records as part of your
Current Cataloging authority control.
Now, we're pleased to announce free retrospective RDA enrichment of your
catalog for all Backstage authority control customers.
To qualify for this service, the following conditions are in place:
* Clients must have already completed a Remaster or Basefile
processing with Backstage
* Clients must be current, meaning Notification services were
applied during the preceding year
* Clients need to alert us of their interest in this service by
June 30, 2014; and processing must be completed by December 31, 2014
We would also like to work with you on future press releases, quotes,
and co-presentation opportunities related to this service for your
catalog, as individual institutional policies permit.
Our online profile can be viewed at anytime, by logging in here:
http://ac.bslw.com/mars
The RDA enrichment profile is separate from our normal authority control
profile. We have also separated access points from descriptive changes
within the profile, all of which can be customized to your liking.
Our hope with this offering is that it helps simplify decisions on your
side regarding whether to apply RDA enrichment for your records. We
appreciate your patronage and for continuing to choose Backstage as your
Authority Control service provider.
Please let us know any questions you may have.
Thanks,
Nate
