Palace of Variety and
Free Museum of Times Square

On August 1, 2002 The Bindlestiff Family Cirkus in association with Chashama will open the Palace of Variety and Free Museum of Times Square at 125 West 42nd St. This entertainment establishment will be a combination museum and theater for live performance.

Free Museum of Times Square

The seven blocks now called Times Square have been a Revolutionary War battleground, a cabbage patch, two dirt roads, and now the "crossroads of the world." We chronicle the evolution of the most famous entertainment mecca: from vaudeville and burlesque to peepshows, from "urban decay" to "Disneyfication." The museum features a photo documentary showcasing over 100 years of Times Square history and pays tribute to the variety arts venues of the past: Hammerstein's Olympia, Minsky's, the Palace, Club Durant, the Hippodrome, Hubert's Museum.

The museum will be open to the public daily, free of charge, from noon to midnight.

Palace of Variety

Heralding the return of continuous vaudeville to Times Square, BFVA presents the Palace of Variety, an intimate theater devoted to presenting live entertainment. The main feature of the Palace of Variety is the legendary Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, a sophisticated one hour variety spectacle showcasing aerial acts, magic, music, sword swallowing, jugglers, clowns, comedy, dance, etc. Bindlestiff will produce other events including a novelty music night, a flea circus, lectures, day-time children's programs, an open mic night, and puppet theater.

Seeking Acts and Participants
For the Time Square project we are seeking acts for our weekend variety shows, performers looking to "experiment" before a live audience at our open mic, self contained shows for performances during the week, roustabouts, volunteers, etc. Let us know how you would like to participate.
